Over-use of antibiotics and antifungals and consequent drug resistance leaves the application and success of current antimicrobial therapies ever more limited. Global healthcare is facing an unprecedented crisis with the current and predicted future unmet clinical need for effective, safe and resistance-free therapies to combat bacterial, fungal, viral and other infectious diseases and conditions. Chemistry-led approaches have failed to solve this problem and so NovaBiotics has employed a very different approach, informed or rational drug design, with nature as the template for a totally novel class of antimicrobial therapies that have the potential to meet the need for safer, more effective antifungal and antibacterial treatments.

Importantly, the mode of action of NovaBiotics' compounds is such that they kill rather than merely inhibit pathogens and the likelihood of acquired or transmitted pathogen resistance developing in micro-organisms which have been exposed to the peptides is highly unlikely, if not impossible.

NovaBiotics' proprietary technology comprises peptides; biologic molecules that in nature form the cornerstone of the body's first line of defence against the spectrum of potentially harmful microbes (bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa) with which we come into contact daily. NovaBiotics has capitalised on the benefical properties of these natural infection-fighting agents and has engineered third-generation derivatives that can be applied for the treatment and even prevention of a range of fungal and bacterial infections.
