Spectrum of Activity
NovaBiotics® cAMPS show activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, are bactericidal within minutes of exposure (Table 1) and are active against bacterial biofilms in vitro. The cAMPs retain bactericidal activity at physiologically-relevant pH and salt concentrations against a broad range of type strains and clinical isolates obtained from cystic fibrosis patients and other bacterial infections.

Table 1
Combinations
NovaBiotics® cAMPs show at least additive activity with conventional antibiotics (Figure 1) commonly used against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria involved in skin and respiratory infections and with NovaBiotics® mucoactive agent Lynovex™.

Resistance Development
Resistance of representative Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria to NovaBiotics® cAMPs has not been observed in vitro after multiple exposure cycles/passages
Safety and Toxicity
The safety profile of this novel antibacterial technology has been establised in vitro using a range of mammalian cell lines and human erythrocytes and shows minimal haemolytic activity and demonstrates little cytotoxicity versus lung cell line. In vitro plasma stability assays indicate T½ of >3 h for Novarifyn™.
