Over-use of conventional antimicrobials, pathogen resistance and a spectrum of emerging organisms leaves the application and success of current antimicrobial therapies ever more limited. Global healthcare is facing an unprecedented crisis with a massive current and predicted future unmet clinical need for effective, safe and resistance-free therapies to combat bacterial, fungal, viral and other infectious diseases and conditions.

“Time to go back to the drawing board”

NovaBiotics Ltd has employed an informed or rational drug design based approach; looking to nature as the template for engineering a totally novel class of antimicrobial peptide therapies.  Peptide antimicrobials form the cornerstone of the body’s first line of defence against the spectrum of potentially harmful micro-organisms (bacterial, fungus, viruses, protozoa) with which we come into contact daily.

NovaBiotics has capitalised on the microbicidal properties of these natural infection-fighting agents and has designed, developed and applied peptide compounds that lack the problematic properties that prevent their natural counterparts from being used as therapeutics. The result is a highly flexible platform technology of potent antifungal and antibacterial peptides that can be applied for the treatment and even prevention of a range of fungal and bacterial infections.

“Taking nature's lead in antimicrobials”

NovaBiotics' believes its proprietary technology has the potential to meet the significant and acute need for safer, more effective antimicrobials, thereby addressing the various and well described shortcomings of conventional anti-infective therapies. NovaBiotics' technology is microbicidal rather than merely microbistatic and its mode of action is such that pathogen resistance is highly unlikely, if not impossible.

"The emergence of multiple antibiotic-resistant microorganisms has led to a search for alternatives to traditional therapeutic regimens.”
